An Electric Fan May Be The Key To Keeping Cool This Summer

As the summer winds down, the temperatures seem to keep going up! This doesn’t mean that you have to blast the AC (and run up your energy bills) just to keep yourself cool. During hot weather, even before switching on the AC, turn a fan on. If you have a ceiling fan in the room, it works to circulate the air in a room to create a draft throughout. Make sure the fan turns counter clockwise in the summer so it pushes the air down over you, creating a wind chill-like effect.

If you don’t have ceiling fans, it’s fine. A window fan, table fan, or floor fan will do a good job getting the air moving. It’s the movement of the air that’s going to make you feel more comfortable when the weather heats up, as well as lower the ambient temperature by at least a couple of degrees.

To make the use of the fans more effective, try to keep the shades drawn during the day to block the sun, especially in the afternoon. Keeping the interior of your house darker, especially while you’re at work or out running errands, will ensure you come home to a cool house.
